The conventual chapter of the Abbey of Gethsemani voted this morning to officially recognize the Lay Cistercian groups associated with Gethsemani.

Lay groups have called Gethsemani their home for many years. Now that there are many lay groups associated with Cistercian abbeys all over the world, there is an international organization to which all these groups belong. The recognition by the abbey will give the groups attached to Gethsemani a more complete official status with the international organization.

The conventual chapter of the abbey consists of all brothers who have made stability at Gethsemani and who are solemnly professed.
