10 April, 2018 - Fr. Chrysogonus' 'Rosa Mystica' in major motion picture

The final scene of "Lady Bird" features a choral piece written by Gethsemani's Fr. Chrysogonus Waddell. The late Fr. Chrysogonus composed "Rosa Mystica" for the Notre Dame Folk Choir, which recorded the song on its 1996 album "Prophets of Joy."

Released in 2017, "Lady Bird" earned five Academy Award nominations, and won several other prestigious awards, including the Golden Globe award for "Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy."

Fr. Chrysogonus, who died in 2008, was a longtime supporter of the Notre Dame Folk Choir. The choir has visited and performed at the abbey many times over the years. Click above for the choir's performance of "Rosa Mystica," filmed in the abbey church in 2012.
