13 April, 2018 - Br. Paul publishes memoir

Br. Paul Quenon has written a book recounting his more than five decades of experience as a monk of Gethsemani. "In Praise of the Useless Life: A Monk's Memoir" is now available online and in select stores.

Br. Paul is one of the monastery's better-known monks. He entered the abbey in 1958 and was a novice under Thomas Merton. In addition to the usual monastic jobs, Br. Paul is a poet and photographer.

While he has already published several books, Br. Paul said he was reluctant to publish a memoir. "I didn't want to talk that much about myself," he said. "Then, I realized it didn't have to be an autobiography. So, I started writing a couple of hours a day and this is the end result."

Ave Maria Press released "In Praise of the Useless Life" on April 13 and the book has earned positive reviews from writers such as Sue Monk Kidd and Kathleen Norris, among others. Click here to learn more.
