14 April, 2018 - St. Meinrad novitiate returns
From April 12 through April 14, St. Meinrad's novice director Fr. Guerric and Novice Fr. Noel stayed in the Gethsemani novitiate and joined the community for liturgy and at meals. Novices from Gethsemani and nearby St. Meinrad Archabbey have been visiting each other's monasteries as part of formation for several years.
Per tradition, the visit included a shared walk to Thomas Merton's hermitage. There, the novices and novice directors shared their vocation stories over some fruitcake and fudge. Junior monk Br. Matthias also joined the group.
Originally from the Philippines, St. Meinrad novice Fr. Noel was a priest for the Diocese of Lexington for about 10 years before embarking on his monastic journey. It was a pleasure to meet him and hear his story.
Founded in the 1850's, St. Meinrad Archabbey is a Benedictine monastery in southern Indiana, about a two-hour drive from Gethsemani. Please keep their monks in formation, and those of Gethsemani, in your prayers.
