Fr. John O'Malley, S.J., recently gave the community a fascinating look at the historical context of the Church from the 17th century until today. His series of conferences, which were hosted Oct. 7 through Oct. 9, focused particularly on:
   · Spiritual Issues in the 17th Century
   · The Crisis of the Century of Lights
   · The "Long" 19th Century
   · What do Three Councils Tell us about Catholicism?

In his lively discussion of the Council of Trent and the First and Second Vatican Councils, he highlighted key issues, the participants involved and the impact and future of each council.

Fr. O'Malley is a professor of history in Georgetown University's theology department. The author of many books, his most recently published work is "When Bishops Meet: An Essay Comparing Trent, Vatican I and Vatican II."

Thank you to Fr. O'Malley for the interesting and engaging discussion.
