The abbesses and abbots of the U.S. region of the Order of the Cistercians of the Strict Observance meet every year to discuss regional business and to plan for the next General Chapter of the entire Order.

This year, Gethsemani was privileged to host the regional meeting.

Fifteen superiors gathered along with elected delegates from many of the monasteries for one week.

There was an extensive agenda, with meetings morning and afternoon, but there was still time for a trip to the nearby Shaker Village historical site.

They were treated to a guided tour and a lunch.

The delegates to the meeting elected two representatives from among themselves to attend the General Chapter to be held in the fall of 2017. The delegates elected were Sr. Alice from Wrentham, pictured above, and Fr. James from Berryville, to the right.
