21 March, 2018 - In pictures: Visitation to Mepkin, SC
Gethsemani founded Mepkin Abbey in 1949.
During the Sunday Chapter meeting on March 18, Dom Elias Dietz gave the community an overview of his recent visitation at Mepkin Abbey.
In addition to providing updates about the daughter house, the abbot shared photos from the trip, including images of the community, the monastery and grounds. He also showed scenes of the community’s mushroom growing operation, as well as the columbarium they operate on the monastery property.
Monks from Gethsemani founded Mepkin in 1949 in what is now known as Moncks Corner, S.C. The monastery is situated on a scenic and historic property, once home to an 18th century rice plantation.
