Eight men participated in Gethsemani's Come and See event this Labor Day weekend.

Traveling from seven states (and one Canadian province), each participant had a different story. Some were cradle Catholics, others were converts. Some were recent college graduates, while still others had significant work experience.

But they all had one thing in common: the desire to learn if God might be calling them to the monastic life.

To help them in this discernment, the participants spent a few days living and praying with monks. They prayed the Liturgy of the Hours in the monastic choir and attended daily Mass as well as Eucharistic adoration.

Long-time monks Br. Paul and Br. Conrad gave short conferences detailing their own experiences in the monastic life. In addition, the visitors spent an afternoon at Thomas Merton's hermitage with some of Gethsemani's monks in formation.

On Sunday after Lauds, they processed with the community for the weekly Chapter meeting with the abbot and spent a few minutes with Dom Elias afterward.

Many commented that meeting the monks was a highlight of the visit. It was a pleasure for the monks as well!

Please join us in praying for these eight men in their discernment.
