The International Thomas Merton Society held its annual conference in Louisville this year, from the 4th through the 7th of June.

This year's event was a very special one, marking the centenary of the birth of Thomas Merton.

Papers were given by various scholars, including former Anglican Archbishop Rowan Williams and the Abbey's own Br. Paul Quenon.

On the morning of Thursday the 4th, several busloads of visitors came from Louisville for a tour of Gethsemani. Many of the participants had never before been here.

The highlight of the tour was a visit to the hermitage where Thomas Merton lived during his final years at the Abbey. Visitors spent some time inside the hermitage, and were served refreshments before heading back to their buses and the conference.
