In preparation for the National Eucharistic Congress in Indianapolis, July 17- 21, four teams of Eucharistic pilgrims set out from the four sides of the United States, planning to end their journeys by meeting in Indianapolis. The southern group of pilgrims began their journey in Texas and passed through Nelson County on their way north, stopping at various places along the way, including the Abbey of Gethsemani. They arrived shortly after noon on the 4th, having walked from the nearby town of New Haven. The core group consisted of about 8 members, but dozens of local parishioners joined them on their walk. They spent some time at the abbey, rested and slept nearby, then returned the next morning to celebrate mass in the Skakel Chapel.
