Each year over the Labor Day weekend, Gethsemani invites a group of young men interested in learning more about the monastic life to live with us for three days. During those three days, the visitors sing with the community in choir, meet with several of the monks, spend an afternoon out at the hermitage, and join the community for the regular Sunday chapter talk.

This year, 11 men took advantage of the invitation. They had the opportunity to meet with Br. Frederic, our most senior monk at 102 years of age (!). Br. Frederic entered Gethsemani in 1954, so has lots of experience to share. On Saturday afternoon, they walked out to the hermitage with the novices and some of the other brothers to sit out on the porch, have some treats, and share their stories with one another.

We hope that they had a wonderful experience during their time here, and we hope to see at least some of them in the future as they continue to discern God’s call in their lives.
