On Monday, March 23, the community gathered in the refectory for a gaudeamus in gratitude for the service of Br. Evaristus and Fr. Raphael to this community.
Br. Evaristus came to us on loan from his home community of Awhum in Nigeria 14 years ago now. He has lived with us, sung with us, and worked beside us through these years. However, the time has come for him to return home where he can continue to be of service to the Order through his own community.
Fr. Raphael came here as a postulant 7 years ago from Rwanda. He progressed through the various stages of formation until he was forced by new immigration rules to leave the country for a full year before he could renew his R1 visa. He was told that this would be a necessary step every five years for at least 15 years until he was eligible for permanent residency. This led him to reconsider his vocation, and in the end he decided to return to his home in Rwanda and resume his pastoral duties. He will certainly be a valuable asset to the Church there.
We will greatly miss both Br. Evaristus and Fr. Raphael. Please add them to your prayers as they begin a new phase in their lives.
