Another monk is at Gethsemani for an extended stay. Br. M. Edouard (Eduardo) Lattar arrived at the abbey on Jan. 5.
Br. Eduardo’s monastery of stability is Our Lady of Oelenberg in France. Born in Corrientes, Argentina, Br. Eduardo began his monastic life in 2004. He made solemn vows in 2010, but is discerning if God might be calling him to transfer elsewhere – possibly to Gethsemani.
According to the Constitutions of the Cistercian Order of the Strict Observance, a solemnly professed brother must spend at least one year in a new community before requesting to change stability. The abbots of both the original and new monasteries must both consent and the conventual chapter must approve the transfer with a two-thirds majority.
Please join us in welcoming and praying for our confrere during this time of discernment.
