Each year on the Labor Day weekend, Gethsemani invites men to come to the abbey and experience what monastic life in the Cistercian charism is like. They talk to a variety of monks here, they share in our liturgy, singing with us in choir and attending our daily mass, they are given a tour of the monastery, and they visit our hermitage to share their experience with each other. On Sunday, they attend our regular weekly chapter to hear the abbot’s chapter talk, after which they stay for a few minutes to pose for a photograph.

This year, eight men came for this experience, from all walks of life and from various places around the United States. It was obvious from their stories that they are all seriously seeking a way to be closer to God. We hope that their time here at Gethsemani has helped them take a further step on that path.
