On July 4, the abbey church reopened to the public. About 50 people attended the first public Mass celebrated at the monastery in nearly a year and a half.
The joyous occasion was the first major step in Gethsemani’s reopening plan. The abbey church will continue to remain open to the public for Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours every day.
On Monday, Aug. 30, the Welcome Center and Gift Shop will reopen and resume normal business hours (Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
On Friday, Sept. 3, the Retreat House will reopen to guests. Reservations are already being accepted.
Thank you to everyone for your patience during these months. The Rule of St. Benedict admonishes monks to receive all as Christ; we are grateful to once again be able to do so.
Vocations
Think you might be called to the monastic life? We can accommodate those discerning a vocation even while the retreat house remains closed. Contact our Vocations Director for information.
